Black Panther movie moving forward?

Marvel comics has appointed a new team for its Black Panther comic...

Reginald Hudlin, who has been at the helm of the comic (and the spin-off animated series) for the last five years is stepping down to be replaced by Jonathan Maberry. Will Conrad has been announced as the new artist for the book.

What is potentially interesting about this announcement is the fact that Hudlin will be moving onto a new Marvel project yet will still be heading up the Black Panther animated series and acting as a consultant on the Black Panther comic.

Could it be Marvel are finally moving things up with the Black Panther movie and Hudlin is going to be involved with the writing?

Marvel making money

The latest Marvel financial reports don't make for particularly interesting reading - unless you ARE Marvel, in which case it's very interesting indeed because income and profits were higher than expected in this financial quarter.

With the success of the Black Panther animated TV series, surely it is only a matter of time before the Black Panther movie gets into top gear...

Black Panther in Preproduction

Sources indicate that the Black Panther is currently in preproduction...

Over the years the license has attracted considerable interest, with and a number of actors including Wesley Snipes having been associated with the role. Snipes in particular has been attached on and off with the Black Panther movie in both a starring and production role since the early 1990s.

However, the most likely candidate for the role currently seems to be Djimon Hounsou who voices the Black Panther in the animated TV series.

At the moment, Marvel is building a team of writers to come up with script ideas for the Black Panther and other Marvel properties and the results of this work are likely to see fruition soon.

Black Panther Catch Up

The Black Panther (T'Challa) is a fictional character from the Marvel Comics universe who is notable as one of the first modern black superheroes.

The Black Panther is the ceremonial title given to the chief of the Panther Tribe of the (mythical) African nation of Wakanda. In addition to ruling the country, he is also chief of its various tribes (who are collectively referred to as the Wakandas). The Panther uniform is a symbol of office for the Head of State and is used even during diplomatic missions.

The Black Panther is entitled to the use of a heart-shaped herb that grants the person who consumes it enhanced strength, agility, and perception. The present-day bearer of the Black Panther mantle is T'Challa, who has had a lengthy career as a superhero, including a longstanding membership in the Avengers. The Black Panther also has access to a vast collection of magical artifacts, advanced Wakandan technological and military hardware, as well as the support of his nation's wide array of scientists, warriors, and mystics.
